Do Standard Poodles Shed?

The Standard is a non-shedding breed and does not have a dog like odor as do some other breeds.

Are Standard Poodles Non-Allergenic?

Yes they are considered to be one of the most popular dogs for people suffering with allergies, however there are some people who are allergic to the actual saliva of dogs.  Remembering of course an un-kept/dirty coat can cause allergic reactions as well.

Grooming requirements

Standards usually require a clipping every 6wks.  However for those people who like a no-nonsense dog, a good clipping with a #10 blade every 3-4months, with a quick face clipping in between will do.

Health Issues

Genetic testing and health screenings are done to help avoid passing on Genetic diseases.  There is no living creature totally free of genetic problems, including us humans, but the incidence of problems can be decreased by careful breeding.

Can my Standard Poodle live outside?

Absolutely not!  These are intelligent creatures that thrive on human contact, I believe you would break their spirit

. Although they love to play in the snow, with no oily undercoat, they would never be able to take extreme cold for long lengths. These are house dogs!
